As a masochist the pain you are seeking is often but not always physical. If not physical this would more sit in degrading and humiliation, so check this out if it’s not in a physical sense. This can be through impact play or the outlet of self harm.

As a sadist you enjoy giving your play partner(s) pain. Again through impact play is the more often used version, but it can be through a non-physical aspect by having your play partner(s) imagine it through Hypnosis or through degrading and humiliation or have them hurt themselves.
